1/21/2023 0 Comments How to uninstall unity from ubuntu![]() ![]() ![]() Selecting "lightdm" works with both the Gnome Desktop Environment and LXDE. You will be given a choice between "lightdm" and "gdm" desktop managers during the desktop installation process. For example, sudo apt-get install gnome-core can be used to install the Gnome Desktop Environment from the terminal, or sudo apt-get install lxde can be used to install LXDE from the terminal, etc. ![]() From LightDM, you can use "CTRL+ALT+F1" to exit into a terminal, from which you can install a new desktop environment, if desired. But with Unity removed, LightDM won't have any desktops to manage, and so attempting to log in from LightDM will result in an error message. Note: After removing Unity using the above described method, provided LightDM hasn't been otherwise removed, you'll still be greeted with the LightDM desktop manager upon rebooting into Ubuntu. Syslinux-legacy will be installed, but this can be safely ignored.
